About Us: A Community Built by Survivors, for Survivors

We are survivors writing for survivors — a community built on lived experience, genuine understanding, and a shared commitment to healing. Discover who we are, why we built this space, and what makes Survive Child Abuse unlike anything else online.

Welcome

Welcome to Survive Child Abuse

Welcome. We’re glad you found us.

Survive Child Abuse is more than a website — it’s a community. Every word we write, every resource we share, and every story we tell comes from a place of deep, personal understanding. We’ve walked the path you’re on. We know what it feels like to search for answers and find nothing that truly resonates.

That’s exactly why we built this space.

Why we exist

Survivors deserve to be heard, validated, and understood

Our platform was born from a simple but powerful belief: survivors deserve to be heard, validated, and supported by people who truly understand — not by well-meaning professionals who’ve read the textbooks, but by people who’ve lived it.

Healing from childhood trauma isn’t a destination. It’s an ongoing journey of growth, self-discovery, and reclaiming your power. We understand that because we’re on that journey ourselves.

In the UK alone, 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men experienced abuse before the age of 16 — that’s over 8.4 million adult survivors in England and Wales alone. When we consider global patterns, we’re talking about hundreds of millions of people who deserve support, understanding, and resources that genuinely help.

What makes us different

Written from lived experience, not a textbook

In a world where most content about childhood trauma is written by people who’ve never experienced it, we offer something different: authenticity.

Lived experience

When we write about nightmares, we’re not pulling from a textbook — we’re drawing from nights spent lying awake, heart racing. When we discuss building healthy relationships after abuse, we’re sharing from our own experience of learning to trust again.

Trauma-informed & compassionate

Every word on this site is chosen with care. We know how fragile recovery can feel, and how easily the wrong phrase can set you back. Here, you’ll only ever find content that meets you with empathy and respect.

Always free

We don’t run paid subscriptions, and we don’t include affiliate links. Everything here exists to serve you — full stop.

Your privacy

Our commitment to your privacy

We understand that privacy matters deeply to survivors. Many of you, like us, are navigating complex family situations, ongoing safety concerns, or simply aren’t ready to share your story openly. That’s okay.

Our team members use pseudonyms to protect their own privacy while still sharing their expertise and experience. We don’t require personal information to access any of our resources. Healing happens at your pace, in your way — and we’re here to support you however you choose to engage.

Our team

The people behind this site

Survive Child Abuse was founded by two survivors and the partner of a survivor. They all shared a vision: create a truly authentic resource, built with care, for the people who need it most.

Zoe Greenhill - Survive Child Abuse Founder and Editor

Zoe G

Founder & Editor

Zoe is one of the visionary founders of this site, bringing years of personal healing experience and a deep commitment to creating safe spaces for survivors. As a co-founder and editor, she ensures every piece of content meets our standards for accuracy, sensitivity, and real-world usefulness. Zoe’s own journey has given her unique insight into what survivors actually need when they search for help online.

Claudia Wallis - Survive Child Abuse Founder and Editor

Claudia W

Founder & Editor

Claudia co-founded Survive Child Abuse with a clear vision: a resource that truly serves the survivor community rather than talking down to it. As a founding editor, she shapes the voice and direction of everything we publish — ensuring it resonates with authenticity and provides genuine value. Her commitment to breaking the silence around childhood abuse drives much of our advocacy work.

Jack B - Survive Child Abuse Admin and Author

Jack B

Admin & Editor

Jack keeps our platform running smoothly while contributing editorial expertise and a perspective that’s often overlooked: the experience of being the partner of a survivor. His insights are invaluable for the loved ones and partners who walk alongside survivors — people who care deeply but often lack dedicated resources of their own. Jack’s dual role ensures our site stays accessible, secure, and genuinely useful for everyone in a survivor’s world.

Your words

Because your voice belongs here too

This community only works because survivors share their voices — and that includes yours. Our Your Words section is dedicated to the wisdom, insight, and experience that only survivors can offer: a Spark of hope, a practical Hint or Tip, or a reflection on What I’ve Learnt. You don’t need to use your name. You don’t need to have it all figured out. You just need something worth sharing.

You are not alone

The statistics are stark. But behind every number is a person.

A survivor who deserved protection, safety, and love. That includes you.

Our full team of six editors and authors brings even more diverse perspectives to this community. You can meet everyone on our Our Team page. And if you’d like to understand the true scale of childhood abuse — and why our work matters — visit our Statistics page.

You are not broken. You are worthy of love, healing, and happiness. And you have the strength within you to create the life you deserve. We know, because we’ve done it — and we’re still doing it, every day.

We really appreciate being part of your journey. Thank you.
